Global Wellness Day offers free wellness experiences

This year's Global Wellness Day (GWD) is set to take place on Saturday 8th June, with numerous events across Ireland.

This marks the international event's eighth year, which last year saw over 100 countries celebrating at over 4,000 locations. Events included complimentary wellness activities such as yoga, Pilates, dance, hiking, and Zumba, along with workshops related to diet, nutrition, healthy eating and happiness therapies such as laughter, breathing, art and mindfulness, and beauty.

The event was founded by Aksoy Belgin, who dreamt of taking the awareness of wellness to every corner of the globe, with the slogan ‘One Day Can Change Your Whole Life.' Aksoy is founder of Turkey's Richmond Nua Wellness Spa, and believes that wellness shouldn't be a luxury maintaining the initiative's ethos that GWD events are free and open to the public.

Global Wellness Day's manifesto is simple:

1. Walk for an hour
2. Drink more water
3. Don't use plastic bottles
4. Eat healthy food
5. Do a good deed
6. Have a family dinner with your loved ones
7. Go to sleep at 10pm

This has inspired an international network of over 86 GWD Ambassadors, including Fiona Collins, Global Wellness Ambassador Ireland, who is Spa & Fitness Manager at The Brehon & Angsana Spa, Kerry.

Last year's Global Wellness Day saw over 100 countries celebrating at over 4,000 locations.

Fiona Collins says:

“Ireland is delighted to be taking part in Global Wellness 2019, each year it is gaining more and more followers. This non-profit, fun event is a great way to raise awareness on the benefits of the Global Wellness manifest. The Brehon & Angsana Spa are running a free yoga event for guests and members for the third year.”

Other locations taking part in Ireland include Killarney Park Hotel & Spa and Ballygarry Hotel & Nadur Spa, both in Kerry, and The Kinglsey and Fota Island Hotel, both in Cork.
