Shiseido develop new skin rejuvenation ingredient
Japanese skincare company Shiseido has revealed a new ingredient developed to rejuvenate skin.
Through 12 years of research, the company has developed Stemlan-173, a new active ingredient which effectively protects the degradation of laminin-511, a key component of the epidermal basement membrane existing between the epidermis and dermis.
Laminin-511 plays an important role in maintaining epidermal stem cells, which are a vital factor for skin rejuvenation, and degrades not only through the ageing process but also with UV exposure.
By inhibiting the degradation of laminin-511 through treatment with Stemlan-173, Shiseido has found that the epidermal basement membrane maintains good condition in research subjects aged zero to their 60s , suggesting that Stemlan-173 has a significant skin texture improving effect. What's more, Shiseido also found that Algae extract, consisting of green algae, red algae and brown algae, acts as an active ingredient to promote the production of laminin-511, which decreases with ageing.
Shiseido will apply their findings to the development of skincare products for skin rejuvenation.
