ESPA’s 2020 vision sees increased sustainability
Natural skincare brand ESPA has announced significant steps in increasing its sustainability through its packaging, operations and product formulations. These major changes form ESPA's 2020 vision to deliver highly effective, natural products that promote natural beauty and sustainability.
The brand has also revealed a modern packaging design and a refreshed colour palette to accompany ESPA's recently introduced new monogram. This is alongside simplified new product categories including three new age-defying product ranges.
Over 50 of ESPA's vegan formulations have achieved COSMOS Natural certification, and products will begin to carry the signature Tri-Active™ blend of Plant, Marine and Aromatherapy oils to create the most effective, natural products for the skin, body and mind.
ESPA serums and moisturisers will now be packaged in the brand's 100% recyclable luxurious glass jars with removable pumps whilst the brand's iconic stone effect caps are now fully recyclable and feature 5% PCR (post-consumer resin). All excess plastic across the ESPA range has now been removed where possible, including plastic pump packaging, all plastic disks commonly found on moisturisers – known as shives – and spatulas. ESPA tube packaging is now made from 25% recycled PCR material, but are not yet recyclable. Cardboard boxes and paper wrap used by ESPA are now completely recyclable, and the use of bubble wrap and non-biodegradable chips has been reduced.
This sustainable packaging will now carry ESPA's new brand monogram and a new, modern design and colour palette aimed to provide a more streamlined shopping experience, helping customers easily navigate the full ESPA face and body range to choose the correct products for their skin needs and concerns.
To assist this further, three new Age-Defying Categories have been announced: Tri-Active™ Resilience, previously known as the Tri-Active™ Advanced ProBiome; Tri-Active™ Regenerating including new products and reformulations of ESPA classics to target visible signs of skin ageing; and Tri-Active™ Lift and Firm including new products and reformulations of existing ESPA products to support mature skin.
Going forward, ESPA's 2021 vision is for all packaging to be recyclable, reusable or refillable, all paper and board to be sourced from FSC certified sustainable sources, and 40% of energy used coming from the company's own solar panels.
