Results of Irish Winter Skincare Survey revealed

Seven out of ten people in Ireland report having dry, sensitive and eczema/psoriasis prone skin that is easily damaged by cold winter weather, according to new research revealed today (1st January 2022).

Sadly, a quarter of respondents to the Irish Winter Skincare Survey said that they feel they just have to live with their sensitive skin.

Conducted by Elave Skincare, the research also revealed that the environment is the biggest trigger for sensitive skin reactions (45%). The next most prevalent sensitive skin triggers are new skincare products (19%) and scents and dyes (18%).

Around 9 out of 10 respondents said the most important thing to them is that their face looks good, with some 70% reporting that facial dryness and redness was their biggest skincare challenge.

More than half of those responding to the survey said they have difficulty finding the right skincare solutions, with half identifying moisturiser as the key product in their beauty regime, followed by cleanser (one in three).

Commenting on the results of the Irish Winter Skincare Survey, Joanna Gardiner, CEO of Gardiner Family Apothecary, manufacturers of Elave Skincare, says:

“It's a challenging time of year for people with sensitive Irish skin. Freezing cold, biting winds and changes in temperature draw moisture out of the skin and compromise the dermal barrier, particularly in exposed areas like the face.

“Since dry, stressed-out skin becomes red and sore, prompting itching, cracking and flare-ups of skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis and rosacea, it is vital to repair, moisturise and protect for healthy, beautiful skin that always looks its best.

“The fact is that you don't just have to live with the damage caused by the ravages of winter weather - a regular regime using the purest, gentlest, cleanest skincare will make a huge difference to how lovely you look when temperatures dip.”
