DermShield™ technology works by supressing neurogenic inflammation, caused when a chemical peel is applied to the skin.  A type C nociceptor in the skin detects the skin's pH level, similar to nerves that detect pain. When a chemical peel is applied to the skin, a signal is sent to the type C nociceptor, the mast cells, the spine and brain. As the signal passes through blood vessels, they expand causing redness. The higher the concentration of peel applied to the skin, the more the vessels expand and swelling occurs, whilst Mast cells release histamine, the result being neurogenic inflammation.
